Growing a Green Baby
How to raise a baby in a way that could benefit his health and development while keeping the environment?
We found a number of ways.
The buzz around the pollution of the drinking water, the air entering into our lungs is not so clear any more, stacks of tissue paper for all the seasonal allergies, trash blocking our landscape. If you decided to go green and help the environment here are a few options to help you on your eco way.
Eco-Friendly Furniture
A baby spends most of his first days in sleeping, so it’s only natural that will start with the nursery. Try to choose non -VOC paint, buy eco-friendly furniture and use an organic crib mattress.
Eco-Friendly Feeding
Not all mothers can breast feed their child, parents that bottle feed their baby can still make conscious decisions. Of course glass bottles are the best choice in this case but even if you choose plastic bottle some are better for the environment than others, like 100% polycarbonate free and Bisphenol-A free plastic, other materials to look out from are phthalates, PVC and even lead. When the baby grows older and starts with solid food try making your own baby food, or buy organic instead.
Diapers
The average baby goes through approximately 6,000 diapers before he is potty trained. One of the best ways is using cloth diapers and not disposables, so that your baby’s gentle skin won’t come in contact with harmful chemicals.
Baby Clothes
Baby’s skin is extremely sensitive, by limiting exposure to irritating fabrics your baby will be less likely to experience irritated skin or rashes. Use clothing made from organic cotton, hemp, bamboo and beech. Also these textiles are breathable for warm summers and can be layered for colder winters.
Bath Time
Although baby’s water use is limited, there is still more you can do to make bath time as green as possible. Consider using natural cleansers, all natural plant based creams.
Environment Friendly Toys
Since most babies put toys in their mouths, you’ll be better off with natural options. Wood toys, home made stuffed animals, your baby learns from experiencing his surroundings.
